Life is a journey of learning, growing, healing, and becoming. My name is Chanel Thompson, and I would love to go on this journey with you. I am a compassionate and creative Licensed Professional Counseling Associate under the supervision of Wanda S. Cook, M. Ed., LPC- S.
I have over ten years experience working with students, adults, and groups in the field of education. Of those ten years, six were as a school counselor, and almost two years as a Licensed Professional Counseling Associate.
People and life are my passion. I grew up in a community stricken by poverty where trauma was high and mental health resources and knowledge was low. This is what sparked my interest to become a school counselor.
As a school counselor I worked with students, staff, counselors, and families on a variety of topics such as, but not limited to, grief, trauma, goal setting, relationship skills, conflict, anger management, resiliency, coping mechanisms, and mindfulness. On this journey, I learned something that changed me and pushed me to obtain my license and extend my career beyond a school setting. One, trauma doesn’t see color or class. Although there are those that may be more prone to it due to their circumstances, it can touch anyone, any home, any family. Two, Trauma can be healed. With the right tools, work, and support system, we can surpass the punches life throws our way and grow into the best desired version of ourselves.
I use a hands-on approach, blending Person Centered, Narrative, and Cognitive Behavior Therapy to meet my clients where they are and help build them up to where they want to be.
I chose Ellie because their core values align with my own. Breaking down barriers and transforming the culture of mental health are important to humanity. Like Ellie, I believe everyone’s path to mental health awareness and wholeness is unique, and I am here to support my clients on their journey, one step at a time.
